June 2021In the last month of the project, we continued to made some partnersip talks and presentations that might start fruitful collaboration in future. We are glad to have opportunity to present wikimedia movement and wikipedia editing to Istanbul Volunteers and İzmir Katip Çelebi University students, meet with Hungarian Consulate General Cultural Attaché and working on "Impact Investment" article with a group of young people brought by our partner Başlangıç Noktası. Two online meeting with community meetings were organized. We are excited that for the first time since the pandemic, the community members started to discuss the possibility of a face-to-face meeting in Istanbul in August.
Wikipedia Education Program
"'June 13"': we made a presentation to the students of the International Relations Department of Izmir Katip Çelebi University, Izmir (IKCU). This meeting was organized after " Ms. Didem Bukhari Gülmez", an instructor at the department, shared a social media post complaining about student assignments copied from Wikipedia was. We have contacted her and suggested to meet with her students and talk about how to cite Wikipedia, when to use and when not to use it. In less than a week, we were able to meet with a group of graduate and under-graduate students in an online webinar organized by the student club. We believe that it was a good start of a future collaboration as well. We made two online meetings. We are excited that the community started to discuss the possibility of first face-to-face meeting after pandemic in August.
Partnerships
June 13: We made a presentation in the edit-a-thon organized by our partner Başlangıç Noktası. The participants worked on improving Impact investing article at Turkish wikipedia.
June 14: We visite Hungarian Cultural Center (Istanbul) and talked with Hungarian Consulate General Cultural Attaché.
June 20: Presentation about Wikimedia Movement and Wikipedia editing for Istanbul Gönüllüleri (Istanbul Volunteers), a civil initiative supported by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.
Community meetings
In June we had two online meetings with community members. Please find the meeting notes below (in Turkish). In addition to local activities, WMF Board elections, AFFcom Elections, Wikimedian 2021 participation were discussed. Organizing a post-Wikimania event in Istanbul was suggested.
