In August, the priority was given the requirements for completing all procedures for fully functioning the non-profit established in July and opening a bank account to receive funds. This required some inter-city travel since the board members had to go to government offices in person. We had exciting partnership talks with some GLAM institutions, continued search for new partners in the Education Program and one community meeting where we celebrated the winners of first local winners of Wiki Loves Earth Turkey contest.
Dijital Bilgi Derneği
First week of August was filled with bureaucratic work to make the non-profit functioning. Although our group received the non-profit status in July, in order to be authorized to legally function and open a bank account there was a number of procedure to follow which required the board members to carry out in person in Istanbul where the non-profit based which took longer than we have expected. We have completed the following:
- getting circular of signature from the notary
- getting tax id from the Tax Office
- getting good-standing certificate from the Ministery of Internal Affairs
- application to open a bank account and review process.
Secondly, we worked on creating the web site of our non-profit organization, Dijital Bilgi Derneği (Digital Knowledge Association).
Education Programs
During the month, our search for new institutions for carrying out the education program in the project during the new semester continued. The most important were two meetings with the professors from the Political Science department of Istanbul University.
In addition to calling the institutions, we have decided to try social media ads to get the Education Program and get applications from the interested members of academia. We have organised a small social media campaign to be displayed to academia members in selected universities
Editor community meetings
In August, we organized an online community meeting on 23rd. It was a special meeting which was organized as an online award ceremony for the winners of the Wiki Loves Earth Turkey contest. We had the winners and jury members as guests in the meeting and have discussed the topics around awareness on Wiki projects, copyright issues, how to share information regarding environmental problems more efficiently on wiki projects. GLAM partnership talks
During August we had talks with several institutions and persons which might be our potential partners especially in GLAM projects. The most important two meetings were the ones with İstanbul Foundation for Culture&Arts and the Digital Media Department of Istanbul City Government. There are plenty of opportunities and ideas that could be carried out with those two organisations. We will be working with our contacts about disseminating information in different departments of those organisations and make further talks with related persons.
